Marion County is a county in the United States of Illinois. It is home to over 41691 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 39505, It is the 35th largest in terms of population. It has total area of 575.71 square miles (1491.08 kmē), of which, 572.26 square miles (1482.15 kmē) of it is land and 3.44 square miles (8.91 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 42nd largest by total area among Illinois's county.

In the county Age distribution was 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 39505, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 37016 White, 1611 Black or African American, 105 American Indian, 257 Asian, 16 Native Hawaiian, and 500 from two or more races.
