Marion County is a one of the county from Georgia's 159 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 7144 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 6964, It is the 15th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Georgia. It covers total area of 367.49 square miles (951.79 square kilometre), of which, 367 square miles (950.53 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.49 square miles (1.27 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 71st largest by size in Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7144 people in the county, organized into 2668 households, and 1912 families living in the county. The population density was 19.5 people per square mile (7.53/kmē), making it the 13th least densely populated county in Georgia. There were 3130 housing units at an average density of 8.5 per square mile (3.28/kmē). The average household size was 2.65 people, and the average family size was 3.12 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 28.3% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 6964, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 64.45% White, 32.8% Black or African American, 0.46% American Indian, 0.47% Asian, 0.19% Native Hawaiian, and 1.64% from two or more races.
