Marathon County is a one of the county from Wisconsin's 72 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 125834 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 130962, giving it the tenth largest population among Wisconsin's county. It is spread over 1576.14 square miles (4082.18 kmē), of which, 1544.96 square miles (4001.43 kmē ) of it is land and 31.18 square miles (80.76 kmē) of it is water, making it Wisconsin's fourth largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 125834 people in the county, organized into 47702 households, and 33849 families living in the county. The population density was 81.4 people per square mile (31.43/kmē), it is the 24th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. There were 50360 housing units at an average density of 32.6 per square mile (12.59/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 people, and the average family size was 3.11 people. In the county Age distribution was 26.8% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.4 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 130962, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 122467 White, 752 Black or African American, 570 American Indian, 6002 Asian, 29 Native Hawaiian, and 1142 from two or more races.
