Mankato City is a one of the Blue Earth, Nicollet, and Le Sueur counties, Minnesota, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 32427 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 36245, giving it the 24th largest population among Minnesota. It covers total area of 15.4 sq mi (39.89 sq km), of which, 15.21 square miles (39.39 sq km) of it is land and 0.19 square miles (0.49 sq km) of it is water, making it the 74th largest by size in Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 32427 residents, 12367 households, and 6056 families in the city. The population density was 2132.5 people per square mile (823.36/kmē), it is Minnesota's 62nd most densely populated city. There were 12759 housing units at an average density of 838.9 per square mile (323.9/kmē). The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.9. In the city the population was spread out, with 16.9% under the age of 18, 32.5% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 15.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males. The median age of the city's population was 25.3 years, The median age of males was 24.8 years, for females the median age was 26.1 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 30011 White, 616 Black or African American, 110 American Indian, 911 Asian, 31 Native Hawaiian, 442 from two or more races and 306 Ohter races.
