According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Manistee County is home to 24527 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 24640, It is Michigan's 26th least populous county. The county spans an area of 1280.77 mi˛ (3317.18 sq km), of which, 543.61 square miles (1407.94 sq km) of it is land and 737.16 square miles (1909.24 sq km) of it is water, it is the 26th largest by area in the U.S. state of Michigan.
