Mandan City is a city located in Morton County, North Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 16718. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 18091, It is fifth most populous in North Dakota. It is spread over 10.29 square miles (26.65 square kilometre), of which, 10.18 square miles (26.37 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the tenth largest by area in the U.S. state of North Dakota. It is ranks 16 in the size of its inland waterways in North Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16718 people, 6647 households, and 4551 families residing in the city. The population density was 1642.8 people per square mile (634.29/kmē), it is the 30th most populated city in terms of population density. There were 6958 housing units at an average density of 683.5 per square mile (263.9/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons.
