Manatee County is a county in the United States of Florida. The population of county in 2000 stood at 264002 as per the Census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 315766, It is the 16th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Florida. The county encompasses an area of 892.75 sq mi (2312.21 kmē ), of which, 741.03 square miles (1919.26 kmē) of it is land and 151.72 square miles (392.95 kmē) of it is water, it is the 28th largest by area in the U.S. state of Florida.

As of the census of 2000, there were 264002 people in the county, organized into 112460 households, and 73726 families residing in the county. The population density was 356.3 people per square mile (137.57/kmē), it is 16th most densely populated county in Florida. There were 138128 housing units at an average density of 186.4 per square mile (71.97/kmē). The average household size was 2.29 people, and the average family size was 2.78 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 20.7% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 24.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 315766, The racial makeup of the county was 87.89% White, 9.02% Black or African American, 0.35% American Indian, 1.51% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, and 1.16% from two or more races.
