Malden City is one of the city of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 56340 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 55597, making it Massachusetts's 18th largest. The city encompasses an area of 5.11 sq mi (13.23 sq km ), of which, 5.07 square miles (13.13 sq km) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 sq km) of it is water, it is the 102nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

As of the census of 2000, there were 56340 residents, 23009 households, and 13570 families in the city. The population density was 11102.9 people per square mile (4286.85/kmē), making its Massachusetts's sixth most densely populated city. There were 23634 housing units at an average density of 4661.5 per square mile (1799.82/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 3.13 persons. In the city Age distribution was 19.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 36.9% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90 males. The racial makeup of the city was 40618 White, 4592 Black or African American, 80 American Indian, 7882 Asian, 33 Native Hawaiian, 1951 from two or more races and 1184 Ohter races.
