Malden City is one of the city of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 56340 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 55597, making it Massachusetts's 18th largest. The city encompasses an area of 5.11 sq mi (13.23 sq km ), of which, 5.07 square miles (13.13 sq km) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 sq km) of it is water, it is the 102nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

As of the census of 2000, there were 56340 residents, 23009 households, and 13570 families in the city. The population density was 11102.9 people per square mile (4286.85/kmē), making its Massachusetts's sixth most densely populated city. There were 23634 housing units at an average density of 4661.5 per square mile (1799.82/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 3.13 persons.
