Mahoning County is a county in the United States of Ohio. The county has a population of 257555 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 237978, making it Ohio's tenth largest county. The county extends throughout a territory of 423.38 square miles (1096.55 sq km ), of which, 415.25 square miles (1075.49 sq km) of it is land and 8.14 square miles (21.08 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 56th largest by total area among Ohio's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 257555 people, 102587 households, and 68865 families living in the county. The population density was 620.2 people per square mile (239.46/kmē), it is tenth most densely populated county in Ohio. There were 111762 housing units at an average density of 269.1 per square mile (103.9/kmē). The average household size was 2.44 people, and the average family size was 3.02 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 237978, The racial makeup of the county was 194640 White, 38359 Black or African American, 490 American Indian, 1468 Asian, 80 Native Hawaiian, and 2941 from two or more races.
