Mahnomen City is a United States city located in the Mahnomen County, Minnesota, United States. In 2000, the population was 1202. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1185, It is the 308th most populous in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The city encompasses an area of 0.96 mi˛ (2.49 square kilometre), making it the 541st largest by size in Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1202 people in the city, organized into 532 households, and 312 families living in the city. The population density was 1252.9 people per square mile (483.75/km˛), making it the 199th most densely populated city in Minnesota. There were 576 housing units at an average density of 600 per square mile (231.66/km˛). The average household size was 2.16 people, and the average family size was 2.85 people. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 23.3% under the age of 18, 5% from 18 to 24, 21.9% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 27.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77 males. The median age was 44.8 years, the median age of male residents at 39.3 and the median age of female residents at 48.3. The racial makeup of the city was 893 White, 1 Black or African American, 193 American Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian, 115 from two or more races and Ohter races.
