The county encompasses an area of 309.44 mi˛ (801.45 square kilometre ), of which, 309.44 square miles (801.45 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 63rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

In the county the population was spread out, with 26.8% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 105.9 females.
