Madison County is a county located in the United States of Ohio. Madison County had an official population of 40213 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 41861, making it the 58th most populous county in Ohio. It has total area of 466.18 square miles (1207.4 square kilometre), of which, 465.44 square miles (1205.48 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.74 square miles (1.92 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 42nd largest by size in Ohio.

The population density was 86.4 people per square mile (33.36/kmē), it is 26th least densely populated county in Ohio. There were 14399 housing units at an average density of 30.9 per square mile (11.93/kmē). The average household size was 2.62 people, and the average family size was 3.06 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 85.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 82.4 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 41861, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 91.41% White, 6.58% Black or African American, 0.23% American Indian, 0.67% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.08% from two or more races.
