Madison County is one of the 115 county of Missouri, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 11800 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 12276 in July 2008, It is the 36th smallest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 497.6 sq mi (1288.78 square kilometre), of which, 496.73 square miles (1286.52 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.87 square miles (2.25 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 28th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

In the county Population was distributed with 24.6% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 18% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 12276, The racial makeup of the county was 97.97% White, 0.43% Black or African American, 0.28% American Indian, 0.36% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.96% from two or more races.
