Madison County is a one of the county from Mississippi's 82 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. Madison County had an official population of 74674 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 91369, making it the sixth most populous county in Mississippi. The county comprises an area of 741.97 square miles (1921.69 sq km), of which, 717.11 square miles (1857.31 sq km) of it is land and 24.86 square miles (64.39 sq km) of it is water, it is the 14th largest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 74674 people, 27219 households, and 19332 families residing in the county. The population density was 104.1 people per square mile (40.19/kmē), it is the tenth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Mississippi. There were 28781 housing units at an average density of 40.1 per square mile (15.48/kmē). The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.23. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 28.6% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 91369, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 55062 White, 34242 Black or African American, 122 American Indian, 1302 Asian, 20 Native Hawaiian, and 621 from two or more races.
