Madison County is a one of the county from Kentucky's 120 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the county was 70872 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 82192 in July 2008, making it Kentucky's ninth largest county. The county encompasses an area of 443.11 square miles (1147.65 sq km ), of which, 440.68 square miles (1141.36 sq km) of it is land and 2.42 square miles (6.27 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 25th largest by total area in Kentucky.

The population density was 160.8 people per square mile (62.09/kmē), it is Kentucky's 14th most densely populated county. There were 29595 housing units at an average density of 67.2 per square mile (25.95/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the county Age distribution was 21.9% under the age of 18, 18.8% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 110.9 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 82192, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 93.4% White, 4.26% Black or African American, 0.26% American Indian, 0.84% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.22% from two or more races.
