Madison County is a county in the United States of Iowa. The population of county in 2000 stood at 14019 as per the Census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 15507, making it the 49th most populous county in Iowa. Its area is just over 562.3 sq mi (1456.35 square kilometre), of which, 561.14 square miles (1453.35 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.16 square miles (3 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 61st largest by total area in Iowa.

The population density was 25 people per square mile (9.65/kmē), it would be the 60th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the Madison County, 27.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 6.9% were 18 to 24, 27.4% were 25 to 44, 23.4% were 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 15507, The racial makeup of the county was 98.52% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.21% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.7% from two or more races.
