Madison County is a county located in the United States of Florida. The population of county in 2000 stood at 18733 as per the Census data. Its population was estimated at 18895 in July 2008, making it the 12th least populous county in Florida. It has total area of 715.8 miē (1853.91 kmē), of which, 691.79 square miles (1791.73 kmē) of it is land and 24 square miles (62.16 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 44th largest by total area in Florida.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 18733 people, 6629 households, and 4683 families residing in the county. The population density was 27.1 people per square mile (10.46/kmē), giving it the 11th least densely populated county among the Florida. There were 7836 housing units at an average density of 11.3 per square mile (4.36/kmē). The average household size was 2.57 persons, and the average family size was 3.06 persons. In the county Age distribution was 25.3% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 107.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 18895, The racial makeup of the county was 59.3% White, 39.04% Black or African American, 0.35% American Indian, 0.31% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.98% from two or more races.
