Madison City is a city located in the Madison County, Illinois, United States. In 2000, the population was 4545. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 4554, making it the 337th most populous in Illinois. The city extends throughout a territory of 7.28 mi˛ (18.86 square kilometre ), of which, 7.01 square miles (18.16 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.27 square miles (0.7 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 130th largest by total area in Illinois.

The population density was 648.3 people per square mile (250.31/km˛), it is the 317th least densely populated city in the U.S. state of Illinois.
