Macon County is a county in the United States of Illinois. The county has a population of 114706 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 108328 in July 2008, giving it the 18th largest population among Illinois's county. It is spread over 585.38 mi˛ (1516.13 sq km), of which, 580.52 square miles (1503.54 sq km ) of it is land and 4.86 square miles (12.59 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 40th largest by total area in Illinois.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.5 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 108328, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 82.2% White, 14.86% Black or African American, 0.21% American Indian, 0.96% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.73% from two or more races.
