Macon County is a county located in Georgia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 14074 as per the 2000 census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 13520, It is 50th least populous county in Georgia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 405.95 sq mi (1051.41 sq km), of which, 403.28 square miles (1044.49 sq km) of it is land and 2.67 square miles (6.92 sq km) of it is water, it is the 57th largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 14074 people, 4834 households, and 3483 families residing in the county. The population density was 34.9 people per square mile (13.47/kmē), it is Georgia's 48th least densely populated county. There were 5495 housing units at an average density of 13.6 per square mile (5.25/kmē). The average household size was 2.71 people, and the average family size was 3.25 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 27.6% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 13520, The racial makeup of the county was 39.12% White, 58.86% Black or African American, 0.26% American Indian, 0.83% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.88% from two or more races.
