Mackinac County, Michigan is a county of the United States of Michigan. In 2000, county's population was 11943 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 10624, making it Michigan's ninth smallest county. It has total area of 2100.55 sq mi (5440.4 square kilometre), of which, 1021.58 square miles (2645.88 square kilometre) of it is land and 1078.96 square miles (2794.49 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the ninth largest by total area in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11943 residents, 5067 households, and 3408 families in the county. The population density was 11.7 people per square mile (4.52/kmē), making it the eighth least densely populated county in Michigan. There were 9413 housing units at an average density of 9.2 per square mile (3.55/kmē). The average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.81 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 6% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 10624, The racial makeup of the county was 78.63% White, 0.95% Black or African American, 14.33% American Indian, 0.39% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 5.69% from two or more races.
