Lyon County is a county located in Nevada, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 34501 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 53022, giving it the fourth largest population among Nevada's county. The county has a total area of 2016.4 square miles (5222.45 square kilometre), of which, 1993.69 square miles (5163.63 square kilometre) of it is land and 22.71 square miles (58.82 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the fourth smallest by total area in Nevada. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Nevada.

As of the census of 2000, there were 34501 people, 13007 households, and 9449 families residing in the county. The population density was 17.3 people per square mile (6.68/kmē), it would be the fifth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Nevada. There were 14279 housing units at an average density of 7.2 per square mile (2.78/kmē). The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.02. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 97.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 100 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 53022, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 92.04% White, 1.66% Black or African American, 2.11% American Indian, 1.56% Asian, 0.15% Native Hawaiian, and 2.47% from two or more races.
