Lyon County is one of the 105 county of Kansas, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 35935. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 35562, It is 13th most populous county in Kansas. The county encompasses an area of 855.14 square miles (2214.8 sq km ), of which, 850.87 square miles (2203.74 sq km) of it is land and 4.27 square miles (11.06 sq km) of it is water, it is the 43rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Kansas.

The population density was 42.2 people per square mile (16.29/kmē), giving it the 16th most densely populated county among the Kansas.
