Lunenburg County, Virginia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 13146 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 12941, making it the 33rd least populous county in Virginia. The county extends throughout a territory of 432.38 square miles (1119.86 sq km ), of which, 431.7 square miles (1118.1 sq km) of it is land and 0.68 square miles (1.76 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 43rd largest by total area in Virginia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13146 people, 4998 households, and 3385 families residing in the county. The population density was 30.5 people per square mile (11.78/kmē), giving it the 14th least densely populated county among the Virginia. There were 5736 housing units at an average density of 13.3 per square mile (5.14/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 21.3% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 113.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 12941, The racial makeup of the county was 7991 White, 4714 Black or African American, 45 American Indian, 29 Asian, 6 Native Hawaiian, and 156 from two or more races.
