Luna County is a county located in the United States of New Mexico. The county has a population of 25016 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 27227, making it New Mexico's 18th largest county. It covers total area of 2965.28 mi˛ (7680.04 square kilometre), of which, 2965.09 square miles (7679.55 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.19 square miles (0.49 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 22nd largest by area in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

In the Luna County, 30% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.6% were 18 to 24, 22.7% were 25 to 44, 21.5% were 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 27227, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.23% White, 1.83% Black or African American, 1.38% American Indian, 0.48% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.07% from two or more races.
