Lumpkin County is a county located in Georgia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Lumpkin County had an official population of 21016 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 27056, It is the 66th largest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 284.87 sq mi (737.81 kmē ), of which, 284.47 square miles (736.77 kmē) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.04 kmē) of it is water, making it Georgia's 106th largest county by total area.

The population density was 73.9 people per square mile (28.53/kmē), giving it the 65th most densely populated county among the Georgia. There were 8263 housing units at an average density of 29 per square mile (11.2/kmē). The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.04. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.3% under the age of 18, 15.4% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 27056, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.27% White, 2.01% Black or African American, 0.82% American Indian, 0.51% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, and 1.32% from two or more races.
