Lumberton City is one of the city of Lamar and Pearl River counties, Mississippi, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 2228 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 2698, It is the 113th most populous in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The city encompasses an area of 7.28 mi˛ (18.86 sq km ), of which, 7.26 square miles (18.8 sq km) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 82nd largest by total area in Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2228 people in the city, organized into 829 households, and 603 families residing in the city. The population density was 307.1 people per square mile (118.57/km˛), it would be the 88th least densely populated city in the U.S. state of Mississippi. There were 920 housing units at an average density of 126.7 per square mile (48.92/km˛). The average household size was 2.66 people, and the average family size was 3.17 people. In the city Age distribution was 31.7% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 85.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.8 males. The median age is 31.4 years, The median age of males was 30.6 years, for females the median age was 32 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 45.56% White, 53.64% Black or African American, 0.27% American Indian, 0.09% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 0.4% from two or more races and 0.04% Other races.
