Ludington City is one of the city of Mason County, Michigan, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The population of the city was 8357 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 8324, It is the 133rd most populous in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city spans an area of 3.69 mi˛ (9.56 square kilometre), of which, 3.37 square miles (8.73 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.33 square miles (0.85 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 205th largest by area in the U.S. state of Michigan.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 8357 people, 3690 households, and 2166 families residing in the city. The population density was 2482.2 people per square mile (958.38/km˛), it is Michigan's 108th most densely populated city. There were 4227 housing units at an average density of 1254.3 per square mile (484.29/km˛). The average household size was 2.21 persons, and the average family size was 2.88 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 24% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 117.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 124.5 females. The median age was 39 years, the median age of male residents at 36.7 and the median age of female residents at 41.3. The racial makeup of the city was 95.02% White, 0.97% Black or African American, 0.92% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.81% from two or more races and 1.06% Other races.
