As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 9290, giving it the 18th smallest population among Iowa's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 434.17 miē (1124.5 kmē), of which, 430.55 square miles (1115.12 kmē) of it is land and 3.63 square miles (9.4 kmē) of it is water, making it the 14th smallest by size in Iowa.
