Lowndes County is a county located in Georgia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 92115. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 104583, giving it the 22nd largest population among Georgia's county. It is spread over 510.63 sq mi (1322.53 sq km), of which, 504.22 square miles (1305.92 sq km ) of it is land and 6.41 square miles (16.6 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 27th largest by total area in Georgia.

There were 36551 housing units at an average density of 72.5 per square mile (27.99/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.61 persons, and the average family size was 3.14 persons. In the Lowndes County, 26.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 15.1% were 18 to 24, 31.3% were 25 to 44, 18.5% were 45 to 64, and 9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.6 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 104583, The racial makeup of the county was 62.7% White, 34.3% Black or African American, 0.41% American Indian, 1.23% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.3% from two or more races.
