Lowell City is one of the city of Gaston County, North Carolina, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 2662 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 2794, It is the 217th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The city spans an area of 2.63 mi˛ (6.81 square kilometre), it is the 316th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2662 people in the city, organized into 1085 households, and 749 families living in the city. The population density was 1011.8 people per square mile (390.66/km˛), making it the 200th most densely populated city in North Carolina. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 23% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 or older.
