Los Angeles City is one of the city of Los Angeles County, California, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 3694820 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 3833995, It is the most populous in the U.S. state of California. It covers total area of 498.29 miē (1290.57 kmē), of which, 469.07 square miles (1214.89 kmē) of it is land and 29.22 square miles (75.68 kmē) of it is water, making it the largest by size in California. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in California.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 3694820 residents, 1275412 households, and 798719 families in the city. The population density was 7876.8 people per square mile (3041.25/kmē), giving it the 89th most densely populated city among the California. There were 1337706 housing units at an average density of 2851.8 per square mile (1101.09/kmē). The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.56. In the city the population was spread out, with 26.6% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 100.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102.6 females. The median age was 31.6 years, the median age of male residents at 30.8 and the median age of female residents at 32.6. The racial makeup of the city was 1734036 White, 415195 Black or African American, 29412 American Indian, 369254 Asian, 5915 Native Hawaiian, 191288 from two or more races and 949720 Ohter races.
