Loretto City is a United States city located in the Lawrence County, Tennessee, United States. The city has a population of 1665 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 1705 in July 2008, It is the 206th largest by population in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It covers total area of 3.77 sq mi (9.76 kmē), of which, 3.76 square miles (9.74 kmē) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 kmē) of it is water, making it the 213th largest by size in Tennessee.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1665 people, 5369 households, and 3232 families residing in the city. The population density was 442.3 people per square mile (170.77/kmē), making it the 233rd most densely populated city in Tennessee. There were 735 housing units at an average density of 195.5 per square mile (75.48/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 23.5% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 18.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.3 males. The median age was 39.5 years, the median age of male residents at 37.5 and the median age of female residents at 41.3. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 98.14% White, 0.6% Black or African American, 0.3% American Indian, 0.18% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 0.54% from two or more races and 0.24% Other races.
