Long Beach City is a city located in Nassau County, New York, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 35462 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 35698 in July 2008, making it New York's 29th largest. The city encompasses an area of 3.89 sq mi (10.08 sq km ), of which, 2.14 square miles (5.54 sq km) of it is land and 1.76 square miles (4.56 sq km) of it is water, making it New York's 284th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 35462 people in the city, organized into 14923 households, and 8106 families residing in the city. The population density was 16594.9 people per square mile (6407.33/kmē), it is fifth most densely populated city in New York. There were 16128 housing units at an average density of 7536.4 per square mile (2909.82/kmē). The average household size was 2.26 people, and the average family size was 3.02 people. The population's age distribution was 18.5% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 34.4% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.6 males. The median age is 39.6 years, The median age of males was 37.6 years, for females the median age was 41.4 years. The racial makeup of the city was 29860 White, 2190 Black or African American, 75 American Indian, 822 Asian, 29 Native Hawaiian, 803 from two or more races and 1683 Ohter races.
