Its population was estimated at 463789 in July 2008, It is fifth most populous in California. The city encompasses an area of 65.87 sq mi (170.6 kmē ), of which, 50.44 square miles (130.64 kmē) of it is land and 15.43 square miles (39.96 kmē) of it is water, it is the 22nd largest by area in the U.S. state of California. It is ranks 16 in the size of its inland waterways in California.
