As of July 2008, the estimated population was 20905, It is 25th most populous county in Colorado. Its area is just over 1844.86 square miles (4778.17 kmē), of which, 1838.52 square miles (4761.74 kmē) of it is land and 6.33 square miles (16.39 kmē) of it is water, it is the 23rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.
