In 2000, the population was 12529. giving it the 94th largest population among Maryland. The census designated place comprises an area of 16.42 sq mi (42.53 sq km), of which, 16.12 square miles (41.75 sq km) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 18th largest by total area in Maryland.
