The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 28620, making it the 48th most populous in New York. The city extends throughout a territory of 3.81 mi˛ (9.87 sq km ), of which, 3.75 square miles (9.71 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, it is the 292nd largest by area in the U.S. state of New York.
