Linden City is a city located in the Union County, New Jersey, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 39394 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 39162 in July 2008, making it the 29th most populous in New Jersey. It is spread over 11.22 mi˛ (29.06 square kilometre), of which, 10.81 square miles (28 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.41 square miles (1.06 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 30th largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 39394 people, 457 households, and 284 families residing in the city. The population density was 3645.5 people per square mile (1407.54/km˛), making its New Jersey's 182nd most densely populated city. There were 15567 housing units at an average density of 1440.1 per square mile (556.03/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.6 persons, and the average family size was 3.21 persons. In the city Age distribution was 22.5% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.2 males. The median age was 38 years, the median age of male residents at 36.1 and the median age of female residents at 39.9. The racial makeup of the city was 66.08% White, 22.8% Black or African American, 0.14% American Indian, 2.35% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, 3.71% from two or more races and 4.88% Other races.
