Lincoln County is one of the 55 county of West Virginia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Lincoln County is home to 22108 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 22386, making it the 32nd most populous county in West Virginia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 438.59 sq mi (1135.94 kmē), of which, 437.43 square miles (1132.94 kmē) of it is land and 1.16 square miles (3 kmē) of it is water, it is the 25th largest by area in the U.S. state of West Virginia.

The population density was 50.5 people per square mile (19.5/kmē), it is the 30th most populated county in terms of population density. There were 9846 housing units at an average density of 22.5 per square mile (8.69/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.6% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 104.1 females. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 22386, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.81% White, 0.24% Black or African American, 0.17% American Indian, 0.08% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.7% from two or more races.
