The county encompasses an area of 336.47 square miles (871.45 square kilometre ), of which, 336.26 square miles (870.91 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Kentucky's 56th largest county by total area.

In the county Population was distributed with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.
