Lincoln County is one of the 159 county of Georgia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 8348 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 8074, making it Georgia's 19th smallest county. The county encompasses an area of 257.28 sq mi (666.35 kmē ), of which, 211.09 square miles (546.72 kmē) of it is land and 46.19 square miles (119.63 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 42nd smallest by total area among Georgia's county. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8348 people in the county, organized into 3251 households, and 2379 families living in the county. The population density was 39.5 people per square mile (15.25/kmē), it is the 98th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Georgia. There were 4514 housing units at an average density of 21.4 per square mile (8.26/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.01. In the county Age distribution was 24.4% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 108.8 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 8074, The racial makeup of the county was 65.74% White, 32.98% Black or African American, 0.42% American Indian, 0.17% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 0.62% from two or more races.
