Liberal City is a city located in Seward County, Kansas, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. Liberal City had an official population of 19666 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 20074, making it the 19th most populous in Kansas. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.2 miē (29.01 kmē), of which, 11.06 square miles (28.65 kmē) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 19th largest by total area in Kansas. It is ranks 18 in the size of its inland waterways in Kansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19666 people in the city, organized into 6498 households, and 4754 families living in the city. The population density was 1778.4 people per square mile (686.64/kmē), making it the 91st most densely populated city in Kansas.
