Lexington County, South Carolina is a county of the United States of South Carolina. In 2000, the population was 216014. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 248518, It is South Carolina's sixth most populous county. It is spread over 757.88 square miles (1962.9 kmē), of which, 699.25 square miles (1811.05 kmē ) of it is land and 58.63 square miles (151.85 kmē) of it is water, it is the 15th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in South Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 216014 people in the county, organized into 83240 households, and 59830 families residing in the county. The population density was 308.9 people per square mile (119.27/kmē), it is South Carolina's fifth most densely populated county. There were 90978 housing units at an average density of 130.1 per square mile (50.23/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.01. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 248518, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 204551 White, 36803 Black or African American, 1020 American Indian, 3183 Asian, 133 Native Hawaiian, and 2828 from two or more races.
