Leslie County, Kentucky


Leslie County is a county located in Kentucky, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 12401 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 11639, making it Kentucky's 29th smallest county. The county extends throughout a territory of 404.36 mi˛ (1047.29 square kilometre ), of which, 404.03 square miles (1046.43 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.33 square miles (0.85 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Kentucky's 34th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12401 people, 4885 households, and 3668 families residing in the county. The population density was 30.7 people per square mile (11.85/km˛), it is Kentucky's 12th least densely populated county. There were 5502 housing units at an average density of 13.6 per square mile (5.25/km˛). The average household size was 2.52 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males. Its population was estimated at 11639 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 99.07% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.1% American Indian, 0.13% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.58% from two or more races.
