Leon County, Florida is a county of the United States of Florida. In 2000, the population was 239452. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 264063, It is the 21st largest county by population in the U.S. state of Florida. It has total area of 701.78 sq mi (1817.6 sq km), of which, 666.74 square miles (1726.85 sq km) of it is land and 35.04 square miles (90.75 sq km) of it is water, making it Florida's 45th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 239452 residents, 96521 households, and 54305 families in the county. The population density was 359.1 people per square mile (138.65/kmē), it is the 15th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Florida. There were 103974 housing units at an average density of 155.9 per square mile (60.19/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.95. The population's age distribution was 21.3% under the age of 18, 21.4% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 20% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 264063, The racial makeup of the county was 169984 White, 82616 Black or African American, 818 American Indian, 6693 Asian, 135 Native Hawaiian, and 3817 from two or more races.
