Leon City is a city in the Decatur County, Iowa, United States. As of 2000 the population was 1983. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1884, making it the 159th most populous in Iowa. The city encompasses an area of 3.15 square miles (8.16 kmē ), of which, 3.14 square miles (8.13 kmē) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 kmē) of it is water, it is the 119th largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1983 people, 858 households, and 514 families residing in the city. The population density was 630.9 people per square mile (243.59/kmē), it is the 572nd most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Iowa. There were 966 housing units at an average density of 307.6 per square mile (118.77/kmē). The average household size was 2.23 people, and the average family size was 2.9 people.
