Lee County is a United States county located in the United States of South Carolina. In 2000, county's population was 20119 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 19891, It is the sixth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It has total area of 411.3 miē (1065.26 kmē), of which, 410.3 square miles (1062.67 kmē) of it is land and 1 square miles (2.59 kmē) of it is water, it is the sixth smallest by area in the U.S. state of South Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 20119 people in the county, organized into 6886 households, and 4916 families residing in the county. The population density was 49 people per square mile (18.92/kmē), it would be the 12th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of South Carolina. There were 7670 housing units at an average density of 18.7 per square mile (7.22/kmē). The average household size was 2.68 persons, and the average family size was 3.23 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 98.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 98.9 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 19891, The racial makeup of the county was 7400 White, 12301 Black or African American, 29 American Indian, 46 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 114 from two or more races.
