Lee County is one of the 102 county of Illinois, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. Lee County had an official population of 36062 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 35129, It is the 42nd largest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 729.29 mi˛ (1888.85 sq km), of which, 725.36 square miles (1878.67 sq km) of it is land and 3.92 square miles (10.15 sq km) of it is water, making it the 21st largest by size in Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 36062 people in the county, organized into 13253 households, and 9138 families living in the county. The population density was 49.7 people per square mile (19.19/km˛), it is the 51st most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Illinois. There were 14310 housing units at an average density of 19.7 per square mile (7.61/km˛). The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.01. In the Lee County, 24.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.8% were 18 to 24, 30.3% were 25 to 44, 23.1% were 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 105.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.8 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 35129, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 32901 White, 1524 Black or African American, 48 American Indian, 317 Asian, 9 Native Hawaiian, and 330 from two or more races.
