Leake County, Mississippi is a county located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. Leake County had an official population of 20940 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 22844, It is the 42nd most populous county in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It covers total area of 585.39 sq mi (1516.15 square kilometre), of which, 582.71 square miles (1509.21 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.68 square miles (6.94 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 39th largest by size in Mississippi.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 26.9% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 27% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 22844, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 55.17% White, 38.91% Black or African American, 4.94% American Indian, 0.26% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.68% from two or more races.
